Gentlemen you asked why Jeff was stepping down here is the letter and I think it explains his reasons.
The time has come for us to deal with what will perhaps be the most difficult issue to face this Executive Committee. I am hereby forwarding to you my official notification of my resignation as Managing Editor of the SubCommittee Report.
As you are all well aware, my available time has been greatly diminished since the events of 9/11 due to the added pressure of working with my customer, the U.S. Federal Government. Added to this is the almost constant strain of trying to find volunteers to assist with the work of producing the SCR and having to do the bulk of the work myself. I would be remiss if I did not note the excellent support that I have received from Tim Smalley for the past several years as well as the more recent work that Jeff Porteous has contributed. Both have provided various levels of PageMaker lay-up work. However, the amount of work that I am required to perform is still too high.
I have been in this role in an acting capacity since July of 1999 when Gene Berger took his unannounced walk on us.
We have been trying to effect more members volunteering using the soft-gloved approach for approximately two years and it has not worked.
I will produce the upcoming June 2004 issue as I have done in the past. The September 2004 issue will be an issue where I will only take an advisory role to whomever becomes the new editor. Beyond that, I plan on divesting myself completely of all formal SCR activities.
JR, I will leave it to you to make the public announcement.
