1/32 scale Disney Nautilus finally complete!

Postby Bob the Builder » Mon Oct 17, 2011 11:33 am

I finally got the chance to finish installing the new speed controllers and conduct the final test and trim of my latest 1/32 R/C Nautilus. I took some video of her on and under the waves and thought I'd share! She turned out great! A real beauty when it comes to performance...

Enjoy!

Great build and video. Loved the Sepia or aged looking part of the video.
I'm guessng the salon area with the figure at the window is free flooding.

The whole boat is free-flooding. It looks great on land and makes for a sub that's really easy to trim out and get to perform flawlessly. I wouldn't do it any other way...

Bob, I have followed your various Nautilas builds for several years, and you have truly outdone yourself with this one.
It couldn't be better ! Harper Goff is looking down and bursting with pride at what you have done.

I am curious about the size of the WTC on this one, and about the source of the nifty ballast pump. Who builds and sells the pump? Does the pump run in both directions, both filling and emptying the ballast tank? What size and type of battery are you using?
What is the overall length of the model, and it's beam?
Again, congratulations on a superb model. You are Captain Nemo, reincarnate.

Chuck,

Thanks for the comments!

The model is done in 1/32 scale, 66.5" OAL. She's running twin 12V, 5Ah NiMh battery packs in the keel. The dive module is an OTW unit designed specifically for these kits, which are now, unfortunately, out of production. Its about 4" in diameter and 33" in length (if memory serves). The pump works in both directions and features OTW's pump controller. The OTW Dive Modules are not cheap, but they are very high quality. I have fallen in love with the pump-style ballast they use. As you can see from the video, it is very precise and works quite quickly.

Bob are you using thrusters to turn like that? BTW I'm finally going to get to mine. I've been so busy building customer models I can't seem to get near it!

Steve,

I have another YouTube video up showing all the internal guts. Search my YouTube user name (RCSubGuy) and you'll find it.

I do use a graupner bow thruster in there...
