Hiya Scott and Robert,
I won't go into great detail but it was a lot of fun. Check out my article about the Gifted Life of a Model kit Designer at :
I really love details especially cockpits and stuff so I went all out on the observation compartment. 60+ parts, I believe. There were photos of other buid-ups like an 18 footer, but not much detail on the props so I made what I thought might be futuristic and workable. Borrowed the caterpillar drive from Hunt for Red October. We included a different nose because that was most noticable, the sail and the missle hatches were a marriage of all the variants. Still haven't even opened my kit.
A little tidbit, the kit design was done and a tooling model was made, then ERTL/ Racing Champions 2 bought Polar Lights and shelved the project. So a bunch of the PL guys started Mobius and bought the plans back but RC2 wouldn't give them the tooling model so they had to have another made to complete the project. I would say that kind of dedication deserves some applause, don't you?
Thank you for your interest. I hear it's been a popular kit. I tried to talk them into doing the Nauitlus but I think Disney royalties are worse than Lucasfilms. I already have the parts layout and exploded views started. Just keep hoping. Think how many 31"ers could be sold at, say, $150-$180.
Back at'cha, guys.
