What's happening in these photos?

Postby Broncazonk » Thu Feb 18, 2010 11:29 pm

These photos where taken on the ferry from Bremerton to Seattle, WA, on January 6th, 2010. What's happening here? Are four (4) tugs normal for something like this? Is this a Virginia or Seawolf class boat?

Looks like what we call a dead stick move. It is when a boat is in port with the reactor shut down and the boat needs to change births. They will start the diesel and divorce from shore power. Im guessing the 4 tug is just for maneuverability. The tugs moving sub (that I have seen) are much larger.

Another reason to have a diesel onboard!!

Here then Nuke Power is a perfect example of what you were explaining and why a diesel is important. Starting the reactor for a move like this is most likely a big pain in the ass.

There seems to be a lot of yard maintenance / safety platforms and railing on the boat.

Wouldn't it be a gas if the entire evolution was over a sail rattle--trying to get a pair of binoculars out of the sail because the new ensign on board dropped them!?!

Ha try having the force protection watch dump a box of ammo in the sail.

Yep! Just by looking at the large fillet in front of the sail you can tell it is of the Seawolf class, the fillets on the Virginias are smaller.
There are OLD pilots and there are BOLD pilots but there are very few OLD BOLD pilots. MAG
