Well I started another project to help occupy my time. This time its a small scale sub the U-214.
This thing is pretty small but I have seen people do small subs before and any thing is possible.
The planes that come with the boat and I am not sure just how well this thing is going to handle but time will tell. The upper rudder on the other hand is nice an large and it should turn very nicely once submerged. Just need to figure out how to get the linkages together. I do not think that I am going to take the time to engineer the planes for easy of maintenance like I usually do. Rather I am just going to make the setup as reliable as possible and hope it lasts. After all it is only a 24 dollar boat.
The provided propeller isn't bad. The pitch isnt to big which will probably be good for the small motor it will use. I heard a good rule of thumb is to use a motor can the same Dia as your prop and you cant go wrong. Unfortunately this is not possible due to size. The prop would be a little more efficient if it had be molded with a conical twist but, I not gonna make a new one so it will have to do. Another neat thing is that the prop already has a 1/8" hole in the back and a shaft will pop right on centered.
Well here are some pics and a video of some testing i did with the prop.
The test was done using a cermark 400 motor w/ a 3-1 reduction. Sorry the quality sucks but the wife has the good camera.
