How did I get this??

Postby Crazy Ivan » Tue Apr 15, 2008 9:13 pm

I always have plenty of problems doing a "View posts since last visit", usually having to open and close some random post first before it allows me to do so. But today my work-around is failing and I keep getting this message I have never seen before:

General Error

Could not insert search results

DEBUG MODE

SQL Error : 1062 Duplicate entry '1475336259' for key 1

George,

Odd error message.......the view posts since last visit works fine for me using either IE or Firefox. What browser are you using? Once the error occurs, is it repeatable?

Jeff,

This would not be a browser problem. There is a data problem in the mySQL database the PHP web pages use.

Each user has a majic number associated with them, my guess is George's is '1475336259'

The code has successfully retrieved the pages that George wants, but when it goes to put it the table that the browser will pull from, it will fail saying that George's key is already in the table (so being used)

The solution is to purge data found in table phpbb_search_results with search_id 1475336259

If you wanted to see this issue, you would need to use George's userId.

Cheers

Jeff,

Last night it happened every time I tried it. It is not happening today. My normal workaround did fine just now. Gremlins. FYI, I use Firefox 2.0.0.13

I was referring to the workaround I have to do when I get the message "You cannot make another search so soon after your last; please try again in a short while", which happens about half the time I log in. As I mentioned above, when I see this message I have to open then close a post, any post, then I can search. The error which prompted this thread, however, is something I had never seen before. There was no getting around it that night and it hasn't happened since (knock on wood).

George,

We've asked our web hosting guy to take a look into the database that holds the forum information to see what's up.

Probably not really helpful, but the same thing that happens to George ("You cannot make another search so soon after your last; please try again in a short while.") happens to me regularly too.

I've experienced that error before ("You cannot make another search so soon after your last; please try again in a short while") but on other forums, never here.
Warm regards,

What really puzzles me is why should anybody even care how often someone searches? Seems like an odd bit of code to me.

Oh....that's to limit the impact of web crawlers, so they don't bog down the system.

Ah, I see. Well, I haven't crawled on too many webs lately myself.

Hey, that wait-10-seconds-and-try-again trick really works, Jeff! Much better than what I was doing. Maybe my routine only worked because it took 10 (or more) seconds to do. :? Now this is a workaround I can live with! :D

p.s. No sign of that database error since that one night. :P :P

THX for looking into it.

We're going to 'side step' the problem through the process of upgrading to a new version of the phpBB software...... :)
