Regular pool runs

Postby Sub culture » Thu Jun 14, 2007 9:23 am

Okay, flying yet another kite.

Hands up those who would be interested in regular London/South east based pool runs in the spring and winter months (indoor venue in the winter), say five runs per year.

i.e.

First run in February
Second April
Third May
Fourth September
Fifth November

The summer months tend to be taken up with shows, which would mean taking a gamble on numbers showing up etc. plus outside pools are open to the public during these months making pool hire a no-no.

If I can get 20 names in the hat, the cost would work out at about £35 per person.

The pool runs would last for about three hours, which I think is long enough for most people, and should enable everyone to get a bit of decent sailing time in.

Likely venues would be Trent Park pool at Cockfosters and Furzefield Sports centre in Potters Bar. Both venues are easily accessed by car, being a stones throw from the M25 and public transport is not too bad either.

Andy,
I would be up for that - five times per annum for £35 does not sound bad value at all.

Okay I have six on the list at the moment (some have contacted via email).

Need a few more, I'll have to phone some folk, as a lot of email addresses bounced when I sent out a note to South East UK based Sub Committee members.

Over 50 views, but just one response (well two if you count Ramesh who responded on another site).

Surely a few more want this?

I have about ten people on my list so far, and I've included myself and my father in that list. I need at least 7 more to break even on pool costs, and this won't leave me any room for any drop-outs.

A note will be going in the next report regarding this. Hopefully that will dig up a bit more enthusiasm, as I realise a lot of UK members don't browse this forum.

I'm still short on numbers for this, have had a couple people more express an interest on another forum.

There is also a bit written about this in the forthcoming Sub Committee report, plus details have been passed onto the AMS and published in their last quarterly 'In Depth'. Hopefully these two things will help reach those who aren't online.

As things stand at the moment I have two choices,

1. Cancel the events.

2. Run less, i.e. three pool runs, and hope the numbers pick up sufficiently to run more.

The latter makes things a little more complicated regarding setting charges etc., and it may be easier to run a few runs on a pay per play basis, perhaps £10 per head, and if we run at a profit the price could be scaled accordingly at subsequent events.

Of course this would require the approval of those who have expressed an interest so far.

Option 2 is far far better than option one! I suspect pay per go will attract the people who cant commit to 5 runs upfront. Doing 1 at a time and seeing how it goes may be the best way.

I agree, lets hope others do too.

Payment upfront for the entire year would have made things simpler regarding booking of facilities, and allowed me to plan ahead. However if I can get the first two or three runs going, and people like them- and I think they will, then hopefully the modellers grapevine will bring more folk forward and i can revert to the original plan.

Andy

Much as I would like to be involved an 875 mile round trip is pushing it a bit for me nowadays. I think the the Barrow trip this coming weekend - and that will take at least 4 hours - is about my limit. I wish you every succes in getting this going though - I just wish I could be there.

Fair enough. I don't expect people to come from miles away. I thought there would be a bit mroe interest from folk in the South East though.

We will see what response my mention of these runs in the current report brings, when it reaches our shores.
