For those of you who don't bother to read my rather predictible words in the back of The Report each issue, here's a reprint of the December column, with a few minor details filled in.
My friends, it is with truly mixed emotions that I sit in front of my keybord and write this column. You may have already noticed, or perhaps not, that there is a new name on the masthead of The Report as the Membership Chairman. I am submitting my final column in this position, and am taking this opportunity to announce my retirement from the post. After almost seven years, I feel that it’s time to move on, and allow someone else to have the same experiences I have been fortunate enough to enjoy. I’m looking forward to having a bit more free time to spend building or running boats, but am also more than a bit saddened by the fact that I won’t have the contact with all of you that I have had in the past. I have come to consider myself truly blessed by the number of friends and aquaintences that this position has allowed me the opportunity to make. I have written for all these years that I believe that model submariners are among the finest folks on the planet, and I still feel that way every day.
I leave you in capable hands. The “new guy” is Don Osler, of Rochester, New York. Many of you wil recognize Don as one of the infamous ”Rochester Gang”, whose exploits are known far and wide as the guys who build neat boats, and travel to distant places to run and show them. I have no doubts that Don will take good care of you, and perform the membership duties to perfection.
I sincerely wish each and every one of you the very best. Thank you for the opportunity to have served. Fair seas, following winds, and I’ll be seeing you soon.
Underwater, the ONLY way to fly!
