Here is the intermediate pattern that will be presented to Erich for his review on Friday at the SubRegatta in Carmel. If he approves the work, we will then produce a part for him to scribe up!

We are beginning the process of creating a scribable pattern for Erich to work his scribing magic. He could have taken the pattern created for him and given to him for inspection at the 2010 SubRegatta, but he was not comfortable with only having one shot at it, so we are creating an intermediate mold so that we can produce more than one part for him. This is a slightly more expensive, but smart move if you ask me!

The first step is to mount the pattern to the board temporarily to transfer the outline of the pattern to the parting board. This is done very simply by setting the pattern onto a couple balls of modeling clay. This will hold it steady for us while we are transferring the lines.

We are going to use the horizontal centerline as the parting plane, so we will mount the Beluga pattern on the board so that we will get an even top and bottom half.

Next we will cut out the opening in the parting board so that we can mount Beluga firmly in place….

Here are a few shots of Erich's new Beluga Molds(short run molds) and the first part (joined in the molds) just popped out of the molds.
