Running lights etc for WWII u-boats

Postby modelnut » Sun Apr 07, 2013 2:03 pm

Does anybody know exactly what kind of running lights were used on WWII u-boats?
I have several 72 scale type VIIc's and the new 35th scale XXIII. I've decided since I can't afford to take them RC I may as well build them static. Might be nice to light them correctly. I wonder. did they have any lights in the conning tower for watch officer's to read their instruments?

Here is a picture from the instruction booklet.

Nothing is said about what colors these need to be. They are obviously running lights.

Found this: Image

But surely there were different colors on each side. Right?

The port navigation light is red and the starboard one is green.

The XXIII also uses a removable 360-degree white light that was mounted on the extended periscope when anchored.
