The SC might consider doing some demoing on US maker faires (http://makerfaire.com/)
instant success guaranteed.
and we might get a few new members with a different skill set.

Just imagine we invent the submarine equivalent of the quadcopter...

That is a brilliant idea. Reading the old SCRs I have grown to really appreciate the growth and depth that this group has gone to. In the beginning of SC, there was a lot of discussion about topics just as you suggest, how to get the word out about SubCommittee. Sometimes it is good to go back to the basics.
If you can cut, drill, saw, hit things and swear a lot, you're well on the way to building a working model sub.

Our San Francisco Model Yacht Club was present at the local Maker's Fair. It's presence and displays of boats has brought more hobbyists to the club.
