Red October... excellent movie. Costner was wanted to play Ramius, but he was tied up with "that indian movie" (Dances with Wolves). Connery was much better choice, IMO. Fave line: "I give us one chance in three. More tea, anyone?"

Other favorite Sub movies? U571. K19, the Widowmaker. Crimson Tide. I remember that "das Boot" came out around the same time that U571 did, but I don't remember anything about it.

Any others?

Yes, they've been playing THFRO frequently the last couple of weeks on Ion. A lot of fun.

Tons of great lines from a really tight script. Hard to pick one favorite.

Would love to see a remix with some modern digital FX. Cleanup the torpedo wakes and the blue screen during the river scene at the end.
Warm regards,

BD,
I watched it last week as it was on, I think the ION channel (twice!). Great movie especially on a 47" screen.
Last night they had Catty Shack on. My not be a sub movie but it too is great. The end with the plastic explosives all over the place, looked like a mine field (water or land) BOOM 8) LOL

Indeed. A bit of cast trivia: In the early-on scene where the COB is ragging Jones (sonar guy) about playing Paganini/Pavarotti over the sonar, the COB is played by one of the screenplay writers. If you can get the DVD, the Bonus Features section is a treasure trove of details about the production (in many ways, the movie production is a major accomplishment in it's own right).

Ah, that's right. I think that my video rental place got das Boot and then U571 later that month. They probably still have the VCR tape of das Boot and if so, I'll watch it when I can. I recall it being very realistic, almost brutal.
