USS THOMAS A. EDISON collides with the USS LEFTWICH (DD 984).
The EDISON was at periscope depth preparing to surface; it damaged its sail and sail planes,
but there was no flooding. Both ships remain operation after the accident.
Happened in November 1982 after the Edison became a Slow Attack Sub.

Wow Pete, great find! I've seen that B&W pix of 571 before, but those others are really something.

Yo George,

I'm embarrassed to admit that I had been service brat in New London and had not even heard about the collision that the USS Nautilus had with the USS Essex. But at the time of the collision I was living in Massachusetts. I had stumbled across the url for these photos at the submariners' blog site.
