Not good news for the skipper, the OOD, and the navigator.

New photos. Montpelier's upper rudder is not seen, so it was either heavily damaged or sheared off in the collision:

What ever happened to the Silent Service ?

Back in the early 80s when I was new to the submarine service I was walking to the end of a pier when I came a cross the end of a sonar dome on its end, pointing to the sky. It was missing a huge section. I asked about it and Ill I could get was two subs were playing tag. No article in the news, no COs on the chopping block.
