I sincerely apologize for the delay in the current issue and wanted to let everyone know that the SCR is undergoing some changes. Editor Carl's travel schedule at his job has caused him to get farther behind than he wanted.
To help him get out from under and get the SCR back on track, we have employed the services of a professional graphic designer to lay out the magazine.
Our new designer, Susan Binkley, has a great deal of experience in technical publications and was once a technical writer and graphic artist for an ad agency in California. Her group came up with the name "Verbatim" for the blank CDs and magnetic media we all have seen and used.
She is currently the art director for the Minnesota Conservation Volunteer. The Volunteer is the 100,000 circulation award winning outdoors publication of the the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources - where I work.
Just because she works for a magazine with the name "conservation" in the title doesn't mean she is a "sissy".
She and her boyfriend hunt deer and upland gamebirds, she fishes and enjoys the other outdoor sports many of us like almost as much as submarines. Susan will be a great addition to our staff.
As soon as Carl sends me what he has done so far for the March issue - we will get it out as soon as possible. Carl retains the office of editor until the time he feels his work schedule will alow him to jump back into the SCR fray.
I think now with a professional doing the layout work, the magazine will get back on schedule and will be an even better looking publication than it has been so far.
For now, I will ask folks with submissions for the magazine to send it to me at the address below. I will put it in shape - along with the staff of SCR editors - and give it to her in a format she can assemble into the magazine.
If you have any questions, please drop me a note give me a call.
Best regards to all,
Tim Smalley - president
